Hyacinths

Hyacinths
I completed this painting as a study in acrylic following the completion of a children's book that I wrote and illustrated in which the main character is named Hyacinth. The book is inspired by my personal experience of losing my father at age ten, and explores the ways in which a loved one's presence can still be felt after their passing. This piece abstractly depicts the concept of the division and union of beings on both the earthly and heavenly/spiritual realm. The lower hyacinth represents an earth being, the upper a spirit. At first glance the two flowers seem divided by the two long leaves between them, but upon closer inspection, there are other leaves that snake through to connect them.
