Sunrise over Koki Beach, Hana, Maui

I captured this magical sunrise from Koki Beach, during the Plein Air Painters of Maui annual trip to Hana. I painted this scene in pastel just as the sun was breaking through behind Alau Island, famous for it's cap of coconut trees. The morning felt truly divine as the radiant sun beams lit up this beautiful magenta cloud. This piece is painted on PastelMat, using an initial wash with pastel and rubbing alcohol to quickly block in the key shapes and values in the ever changing sunrise light.
