I was lucky to get to tour and paint this old castle like building at a plein air event in Eureka Springs, Arkansas. It had a kind of spooky look to it as it was hidden away and not on the beaten path. I used a handmade textured board to get the texture to let the brush marks of the pumice gesso show to create more interest. With the pastels, the handmade board really showed the texture.
