During an early-morning run at Santa Barbara's Stearns Wharf, I spotted this crew getting ready for a day of deep-sea fishing. Their activity, the variety of lights, the contrasts of light/shadow and the colors of their clothing against the pre-dawn sky attracted me to paint their boat in its slip, as the men went about their work.
