Dubrovnik HARBOR
I loved the light reflecting off the Adriatic Sea onto sections of the fortified stone wall that wraps the city to the west, The breakwater protecting the bay from storms, as well as invasions, was built in the 16th century.
Amidst the Old Port there is a building with three symmetrical vaults, that is the old Arsenal, a place where ships were built in the time of the Dubrovnik Republic. The vaults would be sealed by bricks in the period the ship was built in order to avoid foreign spies noting shipbuilding secrets. After the ship was built, the brick wall would be demolished and the ship launched into the sea.
The history of this place alone gives one a good reason to explore this beautiful seaside city. Certainly the Croatian shipbuilders were famous worldwide even back then!
